I don't understand why people complain about patterns being too complicated. If you don't enjoy knitting things that are complicated, then don't knit things that are complicated.
I also don't understand why people complain about patterns being boring. If you're bored by what you're knitting, then stop knitting it.
Life is short. Do what's fun. Isn't knitting supposed to be a "Leisure Art"?

I think what people mean by the first one is "I want to have this end result, but I don't want to expend any energy learning new skills to get there"
ReplyDeleteTotally agree - no-one is twisting your arm to knit something!
ReplyDeleteI *wish* people who complain about patterns being too complicated meant "I bet there's a simpler way to achieve that result, and I'm going to set out to find it!" But that's just wishful thinking...
ReplyDeleteamen and amen. can you come share this at the knitting store where i work?
ReplyDeleteAs they say in Virginia, "You ain't just whistling Dixie!" And while we're on the subject of pet peeves, some of us actually *like* counting while we knit. Some of our inner monologues are louder than others, and it takes more concentration to drown them out. :-)
ReplyDeleteI disagree.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the pattern is not self-explanatory and that makes for complications. As a British knitter, I often find the US patterns hard to understand, and I don't think I'll ever be able to 'do the math...'
The great thing about living in a free society is that everyone is entitled to express their opinion. Not all are so fortunate.
ReplyDeleteThank you for expressing yours politely. :)
I love your free will attitude. So I don't have to feel obligated to finish something that gets boring or that's hard on my hands to knit. I can challenge myself, of course. And do the mindless stuff when I need it.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Life IS short. Much more satisfying to enjoy than complain. Loss and grief will find us sooner or later, and make all our small complaints seem like nothing - enjoy what we can while we can. Our complicated AND boring knitting may become welcome companions during times of great sadness. If we make a choice to do something, and feel a complaint starting to emerge, we can instead choose to think "how interesting!" Delight in those things we voluntarily choose to do, and if we can't - find something else.

Life is too short to do that which you don't have to do just to please somebody else. I love that it is my own project and so it can be frogged when I want to do that or worked on when I want to do that.
